Alpha-linolenic acid i.e. Omega-3-fatty acid makes up 50-52% of linseed oil. This essential fatty acid cannot be produced by humans or animals, thus it can only be introduced into our system with food.
Lin is unique from this standpoint, as this type of fatty acid occurs in much lower doses in other foods that contain it (e.g. soy or saltwater fishes); thus lin truly is the number one source for omega-3 fatty acid.
Linseed oil is rich in antioxidants such as alpha-linolenic acid, vitamin E, beta-carotene; this makes it the most valuable oil.
Linseed oil is slightly yellow in color, with a slightly bitter taste.
People have been applying it in traditional medicine for treating heart disease; to protect healthy skin, hair and nails; to treat eczema, psoriasis and burns; to alleviate infertility and menstrual cramps as well as treating certain neurological diseases. Due to its high unsaturated fatty acid content, linseed oil is suitable for the prevention of arteriosclerosis and the reduction of blood cholesterol-levels. It contains vitamin F, which nurtures dry skin as well as pale and damaged hair.
A further asset of linseed oil is its high lignan-content. This phytohormone is the precursor of the estrogens which play a role in the prevention of the formation and spreading of numerous tumor types. Due to its cell-protecting and antioxidant properties, lignan can be effectively used in the prevention and treatment of cancer-related- and cardiovascular diseases.
Its daily effective dosage is 15-45 ml.
