From a nutritional aspect, the ratio of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids is important, yes, however, the ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids is particularly significant. While the unsuitable ratio of saturated/unsaturated fatty acids is known to cause issues, the particular importance of adequate omega-3/omega-6 ratio within unsaturated fatty acids became fact for only a few years now.
In the civilized world, the regular diet contains a 1:10-1:30 ratio of these types of fatty acids. The ideal total amount of omega-3 fatty acids consumed daily is around 1-1.5 g.
The most important essential omega-6 fatty acid is linoleic acid, which can be found in sunflower seed oil in large quantities. The most important essential omega-3 fatty acid is α-linolenic acid.
Linseed, rapeseed, walnut and hazelnut oils are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. The Hungarian population – aside from animal fats – primarily consumes sunflower seed oil which contains large quantities of omega-6 fatty acids (linoleic acid); the consumption of omega-3 fatty acid-rich oils (fish oils, oilseeds) is low, thus the omega-3 fatty acid provision of the Hungarian population is low. The BIOGOLD Omega 3Mix cooking oil is remarkable from the aspect of increasing this provision, i.e. securing an optimal ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
